Abstract

Pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, newborns, and family planning are physiological processes that require close supervision to prevent them from developing into pathological conditions that can endanger the lives of both the mother and the baby. Maternal and infant mortality remain important indicators for assessing the level of public health, healthcare systems, and human development in a country. The implementation of comprehensive midwifery services through a Continuity of Care approach is one of the effective strategies to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in Indonesia, including in Makassar City. This case study aims to provide midwifery care through Continuity of Care from pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, postpartum, and family planning using Varney's 7-step management method, with documentation in the form of SOAP, in delivering midwifery care. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and supporting examinations and documentation. Midwifery care Continuity of Care for Mrs. D G4P3A0, at 37 weeks of pregnancy, no danger signs or symptoms were found during the pregnancy. Labor proceeded normally. The newborn immediately cried, with good muscle tone movement, reddish skin color, male gender, body length of 48 cm, body weight of 2800 grams, head circumference of 31 cm, chest circumference of 30 cm, and the postpartum period was normal. Then, the chosen contraceptive method was an intrauterine device. The implementation of this Continuity of Care midwifery service is expected to serve as a means of improving clinical competence in providing continuous and quality midwifery care.
